All programs begin with a comprehensive evaluation of the injury and it’s impact on the neuromuscular and musculoskeletal system, followed by a discussion of therapy options, timeline, recovery goals and initiation of treatment. Based on the findings of the evaluation, a combination of the following therapies may be used during the rehabilitation process.
Targeted, skilled, specific manual therapy techniques in the form of joint and soft tissue mobilization are incorporated and utilized when appropriate to address range of motion deficits and associated movement dysfunctions which subsequently alter normal biomechanical processes.
Individualized, sport-specific, goal-oriented strength and conditioning programs designed to initiate recovery and facilitate improvement are implemented early and follow a functional progression with graduations in intensity and difficulty over time. Conventional, effective, balanced strengthening programs integrating isolation and functional strengthening are used to restore and improve, strength, mobility, balance and agility.
All physical therapy programs incorporate home exercise plans which include the tools, information and education regarding their specific problem which then fosters independence early in the treatment plan.
Ultrasound, electrical stimulation and biofeedback can be utilized when necessary to supplement and aide the other more active components of the physical therapy program
Observational movement analysis is utilized throughout the evaluation and treatment process and serves to elucidate subtle aberrations from normal movement patterns contributing to a mechanical problem. Ongoing movement observation throughout the active therapeutic exercise component ensures proper exercise form resulting in maximum therapeutic value.
